In this museum café, housed in the garden rooms of the former owners of Douwe Egberts, you’re sure to find just that. How about taking a breather on the cosy terrace of Museum De Wieger whilst the birds sing in the background? Enjoy a luxurious pastry in this green oasis. The garden is small but lovely. Discover the tall trees lining the garden path, the colourful flowers, and read the stories on the garden signs.

Sooner or later you’ll need to have lunch, and when that time comes, you’d best be near the Next Nature Museum. Treat yourself to a UFO toastie, a vegetarian Spaceburger or a Spacedog. Choose a table inside or enjoy your meal on the terrace by the water.

At the Kruithuis Museum, you can recharge your batteries with coffee, tea and ‘Kruitkoek’. You can relax both indoors and outdoors. When the sun comes out, the courtyard is definitely worth a visit. The dishes may vary from day to day or week to week; the produce comes from the region and is made using seasonal ingredients.
Manuela Goncalves Tavares is world-famous in Rotterdam and, together with her team, runs the Nieuwe Café. She describes the food served there as ‘tokological’. Get ready for hidden treasures, flavours and cultures: a truly Rotterdam-style blend of Afro-Caribbean, Asian and Mediterranean cuisines. Try the purple sweet potato soup with coconut milk, lime and plantain, or the bowl with mushrooms, pak choi, coloured noodles and seaweed flakes.
Name a place with a better view, well wait… The roof of the NEMO Science Museum is the highest city square in the Netherlands, offering views across Amsterdam. And you can pop in here for a bite to eat and a drink. See you there!
