Dreamriders – Workshop #1 #2 & #3

DreamRiders

DreamRiders is an art project for and with young people from across the country who have been affected by the Benefits Scandal. In a series of three workshops, participants explore how personal experiences can be translated into art and shared with a wider audience. The workshops form the basis for an art installation due to open in The Hague in 2027. Drawing on their own stories, the young people work on so-called ‘Dream Tools’: sculptural art objects that represent experiences, messages and dreams for the future. Lessons for the Netherlands are also distilled from their experiences, which will later be shared with.

Getting to Know Each Other

Workshop 1 focuses on meeting one another and building trust. Through short art education exercises, participants get to know one another and explore different ways of sharing stories and experiences. The workshop utilises collaboration, Deep Democracy, storytelling and dialogue.

From Experience to Lesson

Workshop 2 builds on the first session. Participants delve deeper into their experiences of the Benefits Scandal and use discussions and creative exercises to formulate insights and lessons. Together, they explore how these lessons can be made visible and communicable to, amongst others, policymakers, journalists, social workers and other stakeholders.

Dream Tools

Workshop 3 focuses on creation. Building on the previous workshops, participants design and build their own Dream Tools. Through theatre and movement exercises, they also practise how to convey their message.

Participate

Participation is free of charge, but advance booking is required. Following the workshop series, the ‘Affaire’ lessons developed will be shared at public events across the Netherlands. The ‘Dream Tools’ and video works will form the basis for these events and will ultimately become part of the art installation in The Hague.
