You will find us in the best places is a major survey exhibition of South African artist Moshekwa Langa. Featuring nearly 120 works from the past three decades, the exhibition occupies the entire building of Kunstinstituut Melly, making it the largest overview of Langa’s work presented in the Netherlands to date.

Moshekwa Langa

Langa’s expansive practice explores themes of memory, landscape, borders, time, and the politics of land and mapping. His interest in cartography was shaped in part by discovering that his hometown of Bakenberg was absent from official South African maps. These questions return throughout his work in different forms, from lines woven across paper and installations of thread to bodies of water, childhood memories, and observations of landscapes shaped by history.

Unconventional

Langa works with everyday and unconventional materials such as coffee, nail polish, lipstick, newspaper, yarn, coal, tape, and refuse bags. Through wit and irreverence, these materials become layered and complex works that resist easy categorisation.

Anew

Rather than following a linear chronology, the exhibition traces recurring ideas, questions, and interests across three decades, allowing them to return, repeat, and unfold anew.
