The Garage School

Come along to the launch of The Garage School of Prepping Otherwise: Collective Learning in Practice. This publication is the result of Collective Learning in Practice (CLiP #7), a 2025–2026 programme curated by The Garage School. For six months, fourteen fellow learners worked alongside guests and partners on resources, methodologies, skills and stories centred on the question: “What does it mean to survive together?”

Preparedness

Against a backdrop of multiple crises, militarisation and European governments calling on citizens to ‘prep’, the school explored how we might reject individualism and adopt a ‘different’ approach to preparedness and survival. Themes such as health, infrastructure, archiving, food, imagination, collapse and relationality were addressed from various disciplinary perspectives.

Publication

The publication translates these experiences into educational resources, methodologies and games to collectively address the question of survival with curiosity, solidarity and imagination.

Launch

The book launch will feature an introduction by Gabi Ngcobo and the editorial team, talks by contributors and an activity for all ages, with food, drink and a convivial atmosphere.
