Helene Kröller-Müller
The museum is the life work of Helene Kröller-Müller. Between 1907 and 1922 she acquired nearly 11,500 works of art, making her collection one of the largest private collections of the twentieth century. The collection is not only outstanding at an international level, it also tells the fascinating story of Helene Kröller-Müller’s dream.
Art, nature and architecture
The ensemble of art, nature and architecture has its origins in the philosophy of Helene. Her ideal is a museum of the finest international art in the middle of nature. Subsequent directors have each given their own interpretation to this ideal and allowed the museum to grow with the times. This makes the Kröller-Müller Museum unique in the Netherlands and exceptional in the world. And it remains an inspiration to this day.
Wide variety
With almost 90 paintings and over 180 drawings by Vincent van Gogh, the Kröller-Müller Museum boasts the second largest Van Gogh collection in the world. Furthermore, the collection includes seminal works by modern masters such as Claude Monet, Georges Seurat, Pablo Picasso and Piet Mondriaan. The museum is surrounded by an outdoor gallery measuring 25 hectares. Distributed throughout the garden are more than 160 sculptures by iconic artists, from Aristide Maillol to Jean Dubuffet and from Marta Pan to Richard Serra.
The heart of the Veluwe
The museum is located in the heart of the Veluwe, an expansive nature reserve that is fully accessible for walking and cycling. But also near the shopping town of Arnhem and the wooded Apeldoorn. A perfect setting for a weekend excursion!
