You’ll receive an e-mail containing a QR code and a button to add the Museum Pass to your app:
a. If you’re doing this on your mobile phone, where the card needs to be added to the app, click on the Open the Museum Pass app button and follow the steps.
b. If you’re doing this on a computer or another device, scan the QR code using the mobile phone on which the Museum Pass is to be added. Then follow the steps.
c. If the card is for someone else, ask the person the card is for to scan the QR code or request the activation link by email (found at the bottom of the message). You can forward this email to the person the card is intended for. This is also how you can share a kids’ card with another parent or carer. The recipient can add the card to the Museum Pass app on their own phone via the link.

You can find the Museum Pass app in the App Store (for iPhone) or in the Google Play Store (for Android).

-
No, once you switch to the digital Museum Pass, the physical card is no longer valid. You can choose to use either a physical or a digital card. Because the Museum Pass is personal, this system helps ensure that everyone uses their card as intended: for themselves, and not for someone else. That’s fair to other cardholders — and to the museums.
Would you like to receive a physical card again after going digital? You can request one from us for €4.95.
-
The digital Museum Pass is an alternative to the physical card. It is up to the user to choose between these options. The Museum Pass is personalised and cannot be transferred to others. To prevent misuse, it is unfortunately not possible to use both options at the same time. The option to have the Museum Pass as a physical card remains available. However, the digital option offers additional benefits, such as details of current exhibitions and an overview of all participating museums.

The app works on smartphones running Android 9 or higher and iOS 16 or higher.
Although we officially only support Android devices with Google Play Services, the app now also works on many phones that use alternative Google services, such as Fairphones with /e/OS (version 4.3 or higher) and other devices with microG.
Are you experiencing problems with the app on a device running /e/OS or microG? First, check whether your device is running the latest version of its operating system. Since a microG update in July, known compatibility issues have been resolved.
Always check whether your device is compatible before downloading the app.

An adult Museum Pass can only be linked to one device at a time. If you change devices, you can transfer the card to your new device. This can only be done a limited number of times per year. If you change devices too often, you will not be able to transfer your Museum Pass manually and will need to contact our customer service team.
The Museum Pass Kids (for children up to and including 12 years old) can be used on up to two devices at the same time. You can read here how to set up the Museum Pass Kids on two devices.
-
Yes, you can temporarily share the digital Museum Pass Kids with another accompanying adult, such as a grandparent or a friend. The card can be active on up to two devices at the same time. The other accompanying adult will need to have the Museumkaart app on their phone.

It is possible to change the photo on your digital Museum Pass, but this cannot be done via the app or your account. To do so, please contact customer services. They will be able to assess whether the photo can be changed and arrange this for you.
Please note: a photo can be changed no more than once a year. This is a security measure to prevent misuse of the Museum Pass.

Even for a digital Museum Pass, we ask for your address to assist you as best as possible. We need your address to send important messages, generate invoices if required, and provide extra protection against misuse of your Museum Pass.
-
The Museum Pass attaches great importance to the security of its cardholders’ data. For this reason, it has opted for its own system, which ensures that users’ data is not passed on to third parties. In addition, the Museum Pass app offers additional benefits that are not possible with a digital wallet.
-
No, the digital Museum Pass is only available for residents of the European Union. The Museum Pass app, which is required to activate and use the pass, cannot be downloaded outside the EU. If you are visiting the Netherlands, you can buy a temporary Museum Pass at a museum, which grants access to 5 museum visits.
-
If you see the message The time on your phone seems to be incorrect, your phone’s time settings do not match the current time in the Netherlands. This may prevent your digital Museum Pass from being scanned correctly or cause an error message.
Adjust the date and time settings on your phone:
- iPhone: Go to Settings > General > Date & Time and turn on Set Automatically. This automatically sets both the correct time and time zone.
- Android: Go to Settings > System > Date & time and turn on both Automatic date & time and Automatic time zone. Checking the time zone alone is not sufficient.
Can't change the setting?
On an iPhone, the setting may be greyed out if Screen Time is enabled or if the device is managed through a work or school account.About daylight saving time
Daylight saving time and standard time are changed automatically when the correct time zone is set. Problems usually occur when automatic time is turned off or not working, for example after travelling abroad or if the battery has been empty for a long time.
