Porcelain animals more than a metre high; gold, syrupy pastel colours, exuberant paintings and openworked ceramic objects: the new exhibiton Porcelain Fever opens in the Princessehof in autumn 2023.

A veritable porcelain fever swept across Europe during the eighteenth century. Two royal houses plunged into a rivalry beset with intrigue, espionage and drama. Together they unleashed a craze that spanned Europe and left its mark, even today. This thrilling story of the birth of European porcelain is told by two iconic figures of this turbulent era: Augustus the Strong (1670-1733), founder of the Meissen porcelain factory in Germany, and Madame de Pompadour (1721-1764), patroness of the Sèvres porcelain factory in France.

The sumptuous Porcelain Fever exhibition provides insights into the tumultuous eighteenth century and is an ode to the craft. It will feature the finest objects from Dresden and Sèvres, which will travel to the Netherlands for the first (and perhaps last) time.
