Van Abbemuseum

Face to Face with Monet

From 11:00 to 17:00 from 18 December 2025 until 15 February 2026

Exhibition

Something different than water lilies: in a new edition of the Face to Face exhibition series, Monet's masterpiece The Nets of Pourville enters into dialogue with four international Van Abbemuseum collection icons: Yves Klein, Rineke Dijkstra, Zohra Opoku and Tori Wrånes.

A unique combination

In this exhibition you’ll see a striking dialogue between Claude Monet’s Fishing Nets at Pourville and contemporary works by four internationally renowned artists: Yves Klein, Rineke Dijkstra, Zohra Opoku, and Tori Wrånes. Featured works include Klein’s iconic Monochrome bleu, sans titre (IKB 63) (1959), Dijkstra’s photo made in Poland (1992), Opoku’s multidisciplinary pieces, and Wrånes’ surreal sculptural forms.

The power of blue

The exhibition explores themes such as coastal life, fluidity, climate, connection, and the emotional and symbolic resonance of the colour blue. Face to Face with Monet offers a rare chance to see Monet’s work in a fresh and resonant context. Exclusively on view in Eindhoven.

About Face to Face

Face to Face is a unique exhibition series by the Van Abbemuseum in which key works by old masters – previously Rembrandt van Rijn, Frans Hals and Gustav Klimt – are brought into dialogue with contemporary art and the museum’s collection. Each edition often brings a work to Eindhoven for the very first time. This dialogue between past and present offers a fresh perspective on art history and invites reflection and wonder.
