The Portuguese Synagogue is located across the street from the Jewish Historical Museum and was built between 1671 and 1675. The library is full of rare works and a collection of ceremonial objects.

For a long time, this impressive building was the largest synagogue in the world. Wonder at the 17th-century interior, featuring many copper candelabras and chandeliers. When night falls, this impressive room is lit up by hundreds of candles. Attend one of the many candlelight concerts to experience this magical atmosphere for yourself.

Explore the treasures in the annexes and discover a unique collection of ceremonial objects made of silver, gold, brocade and silk. The oldest operating Jewish library in the world is located in this complex: Ets Haim – Livraria Montezinos.

Together, the Portuguese Synagogue, Jewish Museum, Hollandsche Schouwburg and National Holocaust Museum, make up the Jewish Cultural Quarter. The admission ticket is valid for all these locations for one month. The Hollandsche Schouwburg and National Holocaust Museum are temporarily closed for renovations.
