Carnivorous plants
In the Tropical Glasshouses and in the Winter Garden, all kinds of carnivorous plants are on display, such as this hanging pitcher plant (Nepenthes)
There are nearly 100 species of pitcher plants (Nepenthes) that grow mainly in tropical Asia, but also in the areas around it. They are sometimes extremely rare and endangered. With us, they only do well in the tropical glasshouses, where we grow about 250 plants, all with different cups. The catch cups are treacherous traps with a slippery edge, from which an insect once fallen cannot get out.
