Geologisch Museum Hofland offers insight into the history of our planet in an accessible way. Learn all about our planet from the large collection of minerals, rocks and fossils.

The museum also focuses on the prehistory of the region. One of the permanent exhibitions is on the development of Het Gooi and the people that first lived in this area.

Collection

Learn all about the history of life on earth. Marvel at the display cases full of dioramas and fossils. Geological periods are displayed chronologically, going back nearly to the Big Bang and taking you right up to the present.

Reconstructions of former worldviews are important because the history of life on Earth is all about the interaction between changes in the atmosphere, oceans and the Earth’s crust.

Lucas Hofland

The collection of glacial erratics collected by amateur geologist Lucas Hofland form the basis for the collection exhibited at the museum. After his death, his collection came to be managed by the municipality of Laren. The collection has since grown and become more varied through purchases and donations.
