Planten uit de Nieuwe Wereld

Travel around the world and discover amazing plants     Plants from the Neotropics

In our the recently renovated Van Iterson Glasshouses, home to over 1750 species of plants from Africa, Australia, Asia, North and South America, you enter the tropics and discover amazing plants.

Living museum

The glasshouses are a living museum of special plants. Here you find plants such as the rubber tree, cotton, spices, coffee and tea, which were cultivated in the early days of the garden for research into their technical applications. They also house plants that have more recently led to technological innovations, industrial developments, and solutions for problems related to climate change and loss of biodiversity.

New roof, new layout

During the renovation project we have rearranged the plant collections, reinstated a central path in the large Technical Tropical House offering a beautiful view of the pond, and one more glasshouse has been made accessible to the public to showcase the National Plant Collection. Soon you will also see more information about the plants’ background and uses which bring them even more to live.

The new layout and of course the amazing and inspiring plants themselves, make a visit to the renewed glasshouses seem like a journey around the world. And therefore the Van Iterson Glasshouses are rightfully the new showpiece in the TU Delft Botanic Garden.
