Wereldmuseum
Wereldmuseum Amsterdam
Onze koloniale erfenis
Our colonial inheritance shows how colonialism shaped the world of today, and how people endured colonialism.
The new exhibition Poetry of the People highlights influential poems from West Asia and North Africa.

Wereldmuseum Amsterdam is one of the three Wereldmuseum sites. As well as Amsterdam, you can also visit Wereldmuseum in Rotterdam and Leiden. In Nijmegen, you’ll find Wereldlab. Each site has its own character, but together they form one Wereldmuseum.

About Wereldmuseum Amsterdam

Wereldmuseum Amsterdam is housed in an impressive national monument. It was built in 1926 and is located on the Oosterpark. The imposing central Light Hall offers a panoramic view of what the museum has to offer: three permanent exhibitions, multiple temporary exhibitions, and Wereldmuseum Junior. The museum has a colonial history. Colonialism and its impact are therefore important themes within this museum location. But also topics such as global trade, consumption, migration, climate change, and urbanization are important and fitting for a global city like Amsterdam. In the exhibitions and programming, connections are always made between historical context and current, global themes.
