The history of Texel comes alive at Museum Waelstee

Spanning more than 1500 m2, Museum Waelstee paints a versatile, often surprising picture of the housing, work and lives of the people on the tiny island of Texel. Let the museum show you the farm life on Texel of the past!

From farmhouse to wagon museum

A group of enthusiastic Texel residents founded the Farm and Wagon Museum Texel in an authentic regional-style farmhouse, a stolpboerderij, a few decades ago. Initially, the museum focused on preserving the history of rural life on Texel.

Expansion

Over the years, the museum has expanded its exhibition space, warehouse and workshop. At present, with more than 1500 m² of collections on exhibit, the museum has expanded beyond its original area. The collection grew along with the museum itself. The museum currently provides a multi-facetted picture of life on the island in the past.

Authentic Texel

The museum exhibits various authentic farm wagons and carriages, utensils and agricultural equipment used on Texel in the past, as well as a range of equipment and objects used to process milk and produce cheese and butter. The museum also shows how people lived and worked on a farm a century ago.
