Museum Stoomtram Hoorn-Medemblik tells the story of the steam tram in the Netherlands. A visit to Museum Stoomtram Hoorn-Medemblik takes you on an adventurous trip through time. The collection of steam tram locomotives, coaches and wagons is displayed on 20 kilometers of railroad track dating back to 1887, between Hoorn and Medemblik. The original stations are still there.
There are multiple ways of traveling back in time on our steam trams. Boarding in Hoorn or Enkhuizen? Planning a return trip on the steam tram, or do you want to sail the IJsselmeer too? What sites would you like to visit along the way? Design your own adventure.
Steam safari for kids
The Steam Safari is a fun adventure for children. During the ride you will pass by (and stop at) the characteristic stations of Wognum, Twisk and Opperdoes. Twisk is a historic village and in Opperdoes you can enjoy some pancakes at the Pannenkoekenstation (Pancake station) or visit the Bijenstal apiary. Exciting scavenger hunts lead the way. Medemblik offers many interesting sites, such as a bakery museum, Radboud Castle, the Dutch Steam Engine Museum, and of course the historical city center. Do not forget to check the timetable to see when the tram will come by to pick you up again. Don’t hesitate to ask questions when the conductor comes by to check your tickets. They know all there is to know about steam trams!
