The house in Haastrecht has the allure of a city palace
De Werkkamer van museum Paulina Bisdom van Vliet
The furnishing of fourteen large rooms is still in its original state

Pay a visit to a lady from a rich family of regents. In Museum Paulina Bisdom van Vliet, time appears to have stood still for the past 100 years. Roaming from room to room, the old clocks continue to tick away the hours.

Experience how the wealthy lived in the 19th century. The museum has a pleasant atmosphere and makes apparent the wealth of this affluent family. The Bisdom van Vliet family was very influential in local politics. Each room exhibits beautiful pieces of furniture, paintings, and ornate curtains. The house provides an extraordinary glimpse into the daily life of a wealthy 19th-century family in the Netherlands.

Paulina Maria Bisdom van Vliet

The last person to ever live in this house was Paulina le Fèvre de Montigny-Bisdom van Vliet. Both Paulina’s father and grandfather served as mayor of Haastrecht. Paulina was very socially engaged. She founded a school for girls and supported numerous civic associations in Haastrecht. The house became a museum upon Paulina’s death in 1923. Since her death, the interior of the house has not been changed.
