Van 2 februari tot en met 8 maart 2026 presenteert het Luther Museum Amsterdam de solotentoonstelling Op de 8e dag – Maria: Geloof & Genade van beeldend kunstenaar Gijs Assmann. De tentoonstelling maakt deel uit van de reeks Kunst in de Kerkzaal, waarin hedendaagse kunstenaars in dialoog treden met de lutherse traditie, religieus erfgoed en actuele levensvragen.

Maria

In vier nieuwe, site-specifieke kunstwerken onderzoekt Assmann de betekenis van Maria binnen het protestantisme. Hij plaatst haar niet op een voetstuk, maar toont haar als mens: als voorbeeld van geloof, ontvankelijkheid en genade.
