Children’s Workshop: Make a print

From Inspiration to Creation

In the exhibition Alles gegeven , we’ll look at colorful paintings by Jacoba van Heemskerck and her friend, artist Piet Mondriaan. We’ll discover that both artists were not only painters but also excellent draftsmen — each created beautiful drawings of trees, in their own unique way. Let’s take inspiration from them: how would you draw a tree? Is your tree the central focus, like in Mondriaan’s work, or do the trees stand together? What season is it, and how can you show that in your drawing?

In the studio, you’ll learn a printmaking technique that Van Heemskerck also mastered: relief printing. You’ll transfer your original drawing onto a plate, carve out the image, and make a print using a real printing press. You’ll go home with your very own art print! Will you join us?

Practical Information

The workshop is designed for children aged 8 and up and will take place on Wednesday, December 24, and Tuesday, December 30, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM (about 120 minutes). The workshop will be conducted in Dutch and English. A maximum of 15 children can participate. The session will take place partly in the museum galleries and partly in the private museum studio. Children should gather in the museum’s main hall, where they can also be picked up after the workshop.

Additional Details

Children of various ages will work independently on their own projects, guided by a museum educator. They’ll be using professional art materials throughout the workshop.
