Activity

During ArtCouples at the Kunsthal, meet someone completely new to you. Someone from a different generation, background or way of life. Together, you’ll visit the exhibition Signac. Symphony of Colours.

Signac. Symphony of Colours

In Signac. Symphony of Colours, follow Signac’s artistic development through vibrant harbour scenes, colourful landscapes and carefully composed portraits. One of the highlights is the sun-drenched Le Port au soleil couchant, Opus 236 (1892). Also on display is Le port de Rotterdam (1907), which he painted following his stay in the Netherlands.

Vibrant colours

Discover the magical effect of Pointillism in the exhibition. Artists working within this movement based their work on strict scientific colour theories. Rather than mixing different colours of paint, painters applied dots and strokes of colour side by side, allowing the viewer’s eye to blend them optically. Complementary colours – orange next to blue, red next to green – enhance one another, creating a bright, vibrating effect.
