In het Joods Museum zijn een aantal werken van kunstenaar Mark Kolthoff (1901–1993) te zien. Het is een selectie uit de collectie schilderijen en werken op papier die zijn zoon Kees in 2024 schonk.

Kubistisch

Kolthoff schilderde in een kubistische stijl: in zijn schilderijen zet hij landschappen en stillevens in abstracte vormen uiteen. Speciaal voor deze presentatie zijn de werken zorgvuldig gerestaureerd, waardoor ze weer net zo kleurrijk zijn als Kolthoff voor ogen had.

Fotograaf

Naast schilder was Kolthoff ook actief als fotograaf. Na zijn opleiding aan de Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten verdiepte hij zich in fotografie en film, met een focus op sociaal-maatschappelijke thema’s. In 1933 keerde hij terug naar het schilderen. Zijn stijl veranderde vaak en hij experimenteerde met nieuwe vormen, perspectieven en kleuren. Hij was lid van diverse vooruitstrevende kunstenaarsverenigingen en zette hij zich zijn hele leven in voor de ontwikkeling van het kubisme in Nederland.

De presentatie is te zien van 18 oktober 2025 tot en met 12 april 2026 in het Kunstkabinet van het Joods Museum.
