Another Perspective: Pole dance performance, and conversation about femininity, heritage, and support systems

Thursday 15 January from 19 to 21 hours

Activity

A curated evening between conversation and performance, with the artist Michella Bredahl, the curator Martha Kirszenbaum, and the pole dancer Assiata Adams (Miss Adams).

Living archive

Huis Marseille is proud to announce a full evening programme with special guests in the context of the exhibition Rooms We Made Safe by Michella Bredahl.

In this exhibition Michella Bredahl takes us through a living archive of her emotional and powerful photography. This visual essay on reclaiming space begins with her childhood, as the child of a single mother living in a social housing complex on the outskirts of Copenhagen, through intimate portraits of family and friendship, to the empowering movement language of pole dancing.

Conversation

In this conversation the artist, together with the Paris-based curator and writer Martha Kirszenbaum, who curated the French Pavilion at the 58th Venice Biennale represented by Laure Prouvost, and the dancer and performer Assiata “Miss” Adams, will explore themes such as femininity, heritage, the eye of the beholder, and support systems. Visitors can also look forward to a live performance by a professional pole dancer in the unique setting of Huis Marseille.

‘Bredahl’s exploration of femininity is rooted not in identity politics, but in presence.’ –Nandika Chatterjee in Musée Magazine
