Kroon van koning Willem II van Nederland

Crown of King William II of the Netherlands     Crown of King William II of the Netherlands

For the inauguration of King William II (1840 - 1849) in 1840, a crown was made in one and a half months. As the state treasury was virtually empty at the time, the crown was made of gilt silver, glass stones and 72 imitation pearls.

During the inauguration in the Nieuwe Kerk in Amsterdam, the crown was carried into the church, together with the constitution, the orb, the sceptre, the state sword and the banner. The Dutch crown is never worn on the head during the ceremony, but only displayed in front of the throne.
