Buffalo's were of great value during the Battle of de Schelde. The British carried out a first landing action with them from Terneuzen over the Braakman on 9 October 1944. Until then, the Germans were unfamiliar with amphibious tracked vehicles. Equipped with four onboard machine guns, the Buffalo transported not only men but also small military vehicles such as Jeeps or Weasels. Its tracks provided propulsion and steering, over land and water. Apart from landings, the Buffalo also served well in flooded areas, making an important contribution to the liberation of West-Zeeuws Vlaanderen and the Zeeland islands.
