Celebration: Zuiderzee Museum's 75th anniversary

Celebration time

All around the former Zuiderzee people love parties and partying. This jubilee year our Museum puts the spotlight on three major traditional popular festivals that are still celebrated annually : King’s Day in Marken, the Flower Parade at Vollenhove and the North Holland fair.

Dutch festivals

The Marken harbour in the Outdoor Museum is the centre of the King’s Day celebrations. As in Marken itself, there are red-white-blue and orange flags and Orange arches everywhere. Take part in the King’s Games and find out all about the wonderful Orange costumes. In the fishing village you will find a towering float from the Vollenhoven Flower Parade. Learn all about how these exceptional floats are built and let your imagination run wild while building a miniature version.

Finally, on the square by the church, discover how the fair is celebrated in the West Frisian village of Lutjebroek. How’s your aim at knocking over tins? And why not ride a real fairground horse?
