Bewonder de historie van Steenwijk

Stadsmuseum Steenwijk was founded in 1941 thanks to a bequest from Grietje Reiners. She donated her residence on the market square as well as a collection of porcelain, silver, copper, coins, paintings and furniture.

City history

Through diverse objects, the museum illustrates the history of the city. Earthenware from Eskaf (Eerste Steenwijker Kunst Aardewerk Fabriek, the ‘first Steenwijk factory for artistic earthenware’) is on display. Silver from silversmith Bijkamp, dolls from Wildebras and furniture from the Monsieur brothers are all connected to Steenwijk. The museum also offers a comprehensive overview of the Steenwijk tobacco industry. Be sure to visit the historic shop with kitchen.
