Summer holidays

For many people, the summer holidays are a time of peace, freedom and relaxation. A break from work or school, so plans are made to get away: to the sun, sea and beach, or perhaps to the mountains. For others, the summer months mean something different: carrying on working, staying at home, feeling bored, visiting family or looking after others. How people spend their summer holidays therefore says something not only about leisure time, but also about access to it. What does it mean to stay at home in the summer? And how do ‘stay-at-homes’ spend their leisure time at a time when many people are leaving the country, schools are closed and tourists are flooding into the city?

Exhibition

In the exhibition Out of Office (Still Here), Nest examines the concept of ‘leisure’ by opening its doors specifically during the long summer holidays for those staying in the city. How do people spend their time in the summer? And what role does the immediate environment play in this?
