The National Lifeboat Museum is located at the historic Willemsoord Royal Shipyard in Den Helder. This interactive museum tells the inspiring story of the brave lifesavers at sea. Through the historic fleet, the unique collection and interactive elements, stories from the past and present are brought to life.

Rescue

What once began with brave fishermen and villagers grew into the Royal Netherlands Lifeboat Society (KNRM). From the moment you enter, you are immediately immersed in this extraordinary story. You experience local history and read how the beachcombers of Den Helder became the first rescuers. This is where your adventure begins, where you not only learn about the history but are also inspired by the courage and perseverance of the rescuers.

Force 10

Discover the evolution of lifeboats, experience what a force 10 feels like in the wind tunnel, or send your own Morse code in the renovated radio cabin. The Rescue Museum is known for its child-friendly setup, but the combination with beautiful ship models and historical instruments makes the museum a great experience for adults as well. Step aboard and meet the heroes of the sea.
