The National Lifeboat Museum Dorus Rijkers is all about crashing waves and stranded ships. Here you can experience what storm force 10 really feels like. In the ship simulator, you can take a trip on a boat on the wild sea. Ever tried to send a message in Morse code?
Experience what it is like to be a savior and get carried away in the exciting stories about tough rescuers and legendary rescues.
An interactive discovery for young and old!
There is plenty to do in the museum. For example, you can signal with flags, save a crew member yourself with the Hero Game and shoot a lifeline at a ship. You can also climb in a lifeboat and there are free audio tours.
This museum, though, is much more than a museum for children. The museum’s ship models, instruments and authentic black and white films. The museum gives attention to rescuers, rescue actions, lifeboats, the Lifeboat Society, ship communication and navigation systems, and a whole variety of rescue equipment.
Berthed in front of the museum are six historic lifeboats which are still working. A number of lifeboats are exhibited in the museum, which show the development over time. From rowing lifeboats from the time of Dorus Rijkers to the lightning-fast RIBs that the KNRM now uses.
