Discover how the people of the ‘Land van Axel’ region lived in the period between 1850 and 1950 at the local museum Het Warenhuis. The museum’s highlight is a collection of traditional clothing from the region.

Farmer’s room

Part of the rich collection is a modern interpretation of a historic farmer’s room, as well as an iconic arrangement of tools and equipment.

Traditional clothing and jewelry

The museum’s core collection consists of a comprehensive overview of local traditional clothing as well as jewelry. It also includes several carriages, coaches and carts.

Locations

The museum encompasses two national heritage sites containing unique, recently restored paintings on the ceilings, walls and floors. The museum is suitable for young and old alike. Het Warenhuis also includes two external buildings: the Stadsmolen (‘city mill’) dating to 1750 and the Watertoren (water tower), which dates back to 1936. Both are national heritage sites.
