Museum Het Schip is located in an imaginative public housing complex that is popularly referred to as The Ship. It is one of the best examples of Amsterdam School architecture. The museum exhibits focus on the art and architecture of this movement.

Michel de Klerk

Het Schip is the most well-known work by Amsterdam School architect Michel de Klerk. This architectural style is the main focus of the museum. Within Het Schip, the former post office is an extraordinary space. Where else can you find a vaulted rectangular ceiling above an irregular trapezium-shaped floor? And its color combination, purple-blue with lavender is uncommon to say the least. The complex includes a museum residence furbished and furnished according to the popular style of the 1920s.
