When Dutch art collector Abraham Bredius passed away, he bequeathed his collection to the municipality of The Hague. His house was, and still is, a museum.
Who was Abraham Bredius?
Abraham Bredius was a Dutch art historian and art collector. When he died, he left his entire collection to the municipality of The Hague. His house had already been turned into a museum after he emigrated to Monaco in 1924. Until 1985, his collection of paintings, drawings, antique furniture, silverware, crystalware and porcelain was open to the public.
A new life for Bredius
After the museum closed in 1985, the collection was moved to a depot. Fortunately, Museum Bredius was able to re-open its doors in 1990 thanks to the efforts of art enthusiasts.
