Get to know the Netherlands Marine Corps, an elite unit that has existed since 1665. The museum mirrors the life of a marine: rugged, exciting, challenging and varied.

Marines are naval soldiers, deployed where the land meets the sea. They carry out special operations all over the globe. This is reflected by their motto Qua patet orbis (‘As far as the world extends’).

As well as learning more about current missions, you can also dive into the history of the Netherlands Marine Corps. The Zeesoldaten (‘naval infantry’) exhibition tells the story of this elite unit of the Royal Netherlands Navy, from its founding by Michiel de Ruyter and Johan de Witt to the present day.

Want to take part? At the Marines Museum, you can! At the Marines on a mission experience, you can find out why marines need to be able to work together under even the most extreme circumstances. Build your team and go on a mission.

The museum focuses on May 1940. Interactive presentations offer insight into the marines’ role in the defense of Rotterdam prior to the bombing of the city on May 14, 1940.

A holiday program is offered during school holidays, and the temporary exhibitions are frequently renewed.
