The Jopie Huisman Museum collects, preserves and exhibits the work of Frisian artist Jopie Huisman (1922-2000). His paintings are a tribute to the landscape, culture and simple farm life of Friesland.

The museum was designed specially to house this collection, following the artist’s own instructions. Huisman wished to exhibit his work in a simple space, constructed from straightforward materials such as raw wood, brick and steel.

Tribute

Huisman’s paintings are a tribute to the landscape, culture and simple farm life of Friesland. Huisman never sold his work, only giving it away. He earned a living by trading in rags and scrap metal.
