Huygens’ Hofwijck presents the Dutch Golden Age in a nutshell. See the 17th century through the eyes of Huygens senior and Huygens junior, at the estate where they both lived and worked.

Who was Huygens?

Huygens’ Hofwijck is the famous residence of Constantijn and Christiaan Huygens, located in Voorburg. Constantijn Huygens was a poet, composer and art connoisseur. He was in the midst of the world of arts and culture, as well as being the secretary and advisor to the Princes of Orange. He bore witness to considerable political developments. A man of many talents, Huygens was also a diplomat, and maintained good relations with intellectuals throughout Europe.

Huygens and the Dutch Golden Age

At the museum, see the 17th century through Huygens’ eyes. Go on an adventure based on the many aspects of Constantijn’s life. Marvel at the family portraits, poems and art objects as well as the collection of over 100,000 letters written by Constantijn in his lifetime.
