Zaans Museum brought Jaap Tiemstra's cooperage back to life

At the Zaanse Schans, you can visit The Cooperage. Find out more about the traditional craft of making barrels. All of the tools and materials inside once belonged to cooperage and barrel-maker S.R. Tiemstra & Sons in Oostzanerwerf. When the last cooper, Jaap Tiemstra, died, he left behind the full cooperage and its inventory.

Demonstrations

The tools, machines, barrels and all other contents of the cooperage are now at the Zaanse Schans. Jaap Tiemstra’s cooperage is brought to life at the Zaans Museum. Enthusiastic volunteers inform visitors and demonstrate the traditional craft of making barrels.
