Innovators

They refuse to be pigeonholed and have been innovators in figurative painting for years: Keetje Mans, Tanja Ritterbex and Aline Thomassen. From February, their worlds will converge in the Bitches Brew project. Each will present their own solo exhibition, but their works will also engage in a dialogue with one another. On the one hand, through their styles and themes. On the other, through the conversations they have had during the project.

Hovering between emotion and reality

The styles of Mans, Ritterbex and Thomassen are different, but the medium they choose is the same: figurative painting. Their works depict recognisable themes, without being realistic. Keetje Mans, for instance, creates outdoor scenes and domestic settings where strange things happen; Aline Thomassen paints female bodies that merge with organs and forms from nature; and in Tanja Ritterbex’s work, everyday chaos and humour intertwine. Each artist, in their own way, transforms reality to express what they feel. In this way, their work becomes an extension of who they are.
