Plan route
The Egmond Museum tells the story of the three Egmonds. A thousand-year history on life on the seashore, of beachcombers, fishermen, beachgoers and medically fragile children who came to escape the unfavorable conditions of city dwelling.
The museum is housed in an old church. Everything in this charming museum exudes the historical ambiance of life in the three Egmonds, in the dunes and at the seashore. Marvel at the beautiful paintings of local fishermen and their wives, painted nearly a century ago by Roeland Koning. An example of these is ‘Egmondse vissersvrouwen’ (Egmond fishermen’s wives), recently acquired after a successful crowdfunding initiative.
Highlights
Highlights include the stained-glass windows portraying life in Egmond, and the clock from a church that, together with a part of the village, was swallowed by the sea in 1743. The museum also displays an old rescue lifeboat, a fisherman’s room with a shed for odds and ends, and art by the Egmond School.
Kids
Kids will have loads of fun in this museum! Youngsters can dress dolls in traditional costumes or go on a scavenger hunt through the museum.
