Get to know Amsterdam and discover how the city has grown, changed and been shaped by its people over the centuries. Amsterdam in Motion is an exhibition by the Amsterdam Museum that brings together the history, culture and development of the city.

Amsterdam in Motion

At the heart of the exhibition is an impressive 200 m² city model. A multimedia presentation projected onto the model takes you through Amsterdam's history, from a small settlement on the Amstel River to the city it is today. Historical images, photographs and scenes from different periods reveal how Amsterdam – and life in the city – has changed over 750 years.

Amsterdam Museum

After the presentation, continue through the exhibition to discover more stories about Amsterdam. Objects from the Amsterdam Museum's collection and a range of themes introduce you to the people, events and developments that have shaped the city, while also looking ahead to Amsterdam's future.

Introduction to the city

Amsterdam in Motion is an accessible and visually engaging introduction to the city. It's a great place to start if you're visiting Amsterdam for the first time, and offers a new perspective even if you already know the city well. And as the entire exhibition is indoors, it's also a great way to discover Amsterdam on a rainy day.
