Students exhibition Radically Mine!

Bis einschl. 9 Juni von 11:00 bis 17:00

Ausstellung

Where is your foundation, what makes you who you are? And where do we find common ground? With these and other questions, more than 300 schoolchildren from Eindhoven and the surrounding area worked on the project Radically Mine!.

The theme of this 15th edition is common ground. The participants also drew inspiration from the Van Abbemuseum's collection. They each made a personal artwork about what connects them. A selection of the works is on display in the exhibition Radically Mine!

Pupils become young artists

A kick-off in the museum formed the starting point: during this visit, participants joined workshops by well-known Eindhoven makers and started a conversation with themselves and each other. They left the museum as young artists, as then it started: they created their own artworks. This way, the participants discovered what art can mean, for them personally and for each other.

Common Ground

The theme common ground was inspired by the ideas of Palestinian theorist Munir Fasheh. Education and public outreach officer Glenda Pattipeilohy says: "Faseh’s idea is about connection. Within Radically Mine! we translate that into the theme of common cround. It's great to introduce these young artists to this powerful thinking and invite them to explore their own grounds." Participants do this by reflecting on their foundations. Is that the community they grew up in? Religion, culture or customs? Friends and family?

In the museum

The closing exhibition at the Van Abbemuseum shows a selection of the young artists' work. This way, they literally bring their ideas into the limelight and show their vision to the wider public. Young artist Esmee van Hoek (participant in 2023) says: "It's very cool that young people get a chance to exhibit their art in a museum. And it was really nice to be taken seriously by everyone who participated in Radically Mine!".

The Van Abbemuseum is collaborating with Kunstbende within this project.
