The museum reveals surprising collection pieces from Limburg collections and (inter)national works by leading artists. The objects allow space for personal interpretation, meaning-making and association. For on a theme so universal, countless perspectives can be unleashed.

Discover the tension

Between concealing and revealing, desire and seduction, and between loving and contemplating. Eroticism is more than beauty, shame, arousal or sex. The theme embodies love and lust, but also encompasses potential taboos that may accompany them.

Revolution

In this exhibition, the museum takes you through the changing view of eroticism over the years. From the late Middle Ages and the sexual revolution of the 1960s to contemporary times where prudishness and sexualization occur simultaneously.

Stories from Limburg

View and listen to stories with diverse perspectives in Eroticism – Beyond Beauty and Shame. In a compelling audio tour, director, presenter and theater maker Lucas De Man engages in conversation about the personal experience of eroticism. The exhibition challenges you to share your own experiences. Together we thus shed new light on an all-encompassing theme.
