Twee kunstenaars reizen deze zomer in een mobiel atelier door Leiden. Ze volgen de stappen van een eeuwenoud proces om van wol de kledingstof saai te maken. Volg in deze mini-tentoonstelling in Museum De Lakenhal hun reis en leer meer over de geschiedenis van Leiden als textielstad.

Saai

Saai is een populaire oude kledingstof - een wollen lakense stof - die in Leiden werd gemaakt. Hierdoor werd Leiden in de 17e eeuw zelfs de belangrijkste stoffenstad van Europa. In Museum De Lakenhal ontdek je alles over de geschiedenis van Saai. Wevers, spinners, vollers, ververs - allemaal werkten ze samen om stoffen te maken.

Mobiel atelier

Naast de presentatie in het museum kun je ook aansluiten bij kunstenaars Sara Vrugt en Nina Mathijsen in het Singelpark in Leiden. Ervaar in hun mobiele atelier zelf hoe moeilijk - of makkelijk - het is om stof te maken van wol. Het mobiele atelier van Van Kade tot Zelfkant reist tot en met 27 augustus elke donderdag, vrijdag, zaterdag en zondag door het Singelpark in Leiden. Iedereen die wil, is welkom om aan te sluiten in het atelier om mee te helpen.
