Permanent Collection
The Maritime Museum is great fun for both young and old visitors. The museum accommodates one of the largest and finest maritime collections in the world, including paintings by Mesdag and Savery, globes and the famous maps drawn by Blaeu. Moored at the jetty is a beautiful replica of the VOC (Dutch East India Company) ship ‘Amsterdam’. In a recent renovation campaign this eye catcher’s authentic interior has been restored with a cabin, a bread, powder and cheese room and sailors’ bunks.

This winter the Maritime Museum is organising three exhibitions that will show unusual parts of its collection. Kunst op het water (Art on the water) will present some of the finest ship decorations. Klein beginnen (Starting on a small scale) will focus on models of ships, while the third exhibition will present a survey of the atmospheric photos Annemie Wolff took of Amsterdam’s harbour in the 1950s.

Tuesday to Sunday: 10:00 am - 5:00 pm; also open on Mondays from mid-June to mid-September; closed on New Year’s Day and Queen’s day (30 April).
