The most musical museum in The Netherlands!
A former church in the heart of historical Utrecht is home to a living collection of mechanical music. Carillon clocks, musical boxes, pianolas, 'belly'organs, orchestrions (such as the 'Hupfeld Phonoliszt Violina'), as well as full-size street-, fairground- and dance hall organs all still work and are on show in the Netherlands' National Museum 'From Musical Clock to Street Organ'.
Something for everyone
The museum caters for visitors of all ages - and all kinds. Families, with or without children, tourists, school trips, business outings, instrument collectors and music lovers. Children can join the 'Music Factory', where they can compose, arrange and perform their own compositions on a musical box. The museum café has a wide selection of refreshments. Why not browse for a musical present in the souvenir shop? The museum organizes regular concerts, exhibitions, theatre performances and lectures.
Every visit is different!
A guided tour of this unique museum (also in English) tells the story of automated musical instruments over six centuries. Each tour of the museum is unique, since a different selection of music is played from the various instruments. Repertoire varies from Viennese waltzes and tangos to tearjerkers and the latest hits from the music charts.
